Commercial Doors and the R-Value

Finding the right commercial doors for your business is important. There are so many different options available that it can be hard to know how to choose.

One thing is for sure – it pays to pay close attention to any commercial door’s R-value. If you’re not completely sure what that means, we can help you understand it and even assist you in choosing a commercial door that has just what your business needs.

What is R-Value?

Before we explain what R-value is, it’s important to know what the three mechanisms of heat flow are. They are:

Conduction – This describes the way heat moves through an object or material.

Convection – This describes the way heat gets circulated through gases and liquids, and it’s also why heat rises, and cooler air sinks.

Radiation – This type of heat travels in a straight line, and anything in its path heats up and absorbs the energy.

R-value is determined by insulation’s resistance to conductive heat flow. The higher something’s R-value is, the more effective its insulating abilities are.

R-values can also change over time. Aging, moisture levels and accumulation, and temperature all play a role in determining this number.

Why Does R-Value Matter for Commercial Doors?

A commercial door’s R-value should be one of the first features you check before you make a decision because:

  • You’ll save on your energy costs and the last thing you need is to pay high heating bills because of commercial doors with low R-values.
  • You’ll have improved indoor temperatures so you can keep any temperature-sensitive products in your warehouse in top condition and drastically reduce spoilage.
  • Your workers will thank you because controlled temperatures will keep them nice and warm in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Commercial doors should do more than add visual attraction and curb appeal to your facility. They are important but, you also want to know that they’re providing the insulation your building needs.

What are Your Options for Commercial Doors?

At Authority Dock & Door, we have many types of commercial doors, so no matter what your need is, we can help you find just what you’re looking for. We can help you decide on commercial doors, such as sectional overhead doors, overhead coiling doors, cold storage doors, and high speed doors, to name a few.

There may be other areas of your facility that need new doors or other solutions too. We can help with PVC strip curtains, coiling counter shutters, fire-rated doors, and so much more.

The right commercial doors can save you money, improve workplace efficiency, and even result in happier, more content employees. It makes sense to invest in doors that offer exactly what you need.
